Anxiety is a basic human feeling which occurs in situations that are perceived as threatening and finds expression as worry and unenthusiastic excitation. Actuators can be expected threats of ones physical integrity, self-respect and –perception. Conceptually the object-undefined anxiety is set apart from the object-related fear. Further on the acutal emotion anxiety is to differentiate from the personal character-feature fearfulness and so feeling more and more intense anxiety than other people.

In the history of evolution anxiety has an important function as a sense sharpening protection mechanism which leeds to appropriate behaviour either in realistic or alleged situations (e.g. escape).
